How to create client handover documentation (without writing it)

Your clients ask the same questions every month. Here's how to record the answers once, share them as a link, and stop repeating yourself.

What is a client handover?

When you finish a project for a client, you hand it over. You explain how to update their website, how to log in, how to add a product, how to publish a blog post.

Most agencies do this on a Zoom call. The client takes notes. Two weeks later, the client forgets — and you get an email asking the same question again.

A handover doc fixes that. Dyzo Owl makes one for you while you do the work.

Things to record once

Here's a starter list. Record each one the next time you do it for a client:

  • How to log in to the website admin
  • How to add or edit a product
  • How to write and publish a blog post
  • How to check Google Analytics
  • How to update store hours / contact info
  • How to add a coupon code
  • How to download an invoice or report

How to record one

  1. Open the Dyzo Owl side panel and press Start recording.
  2. Do the task in the client's account, just like normal.
  3. Press Stop & review. Each click becomes a step with a screenshot.
  4. Rename any unclear step. Drag annotations to highlight the right button. Blur anything you don't want the client to see.
  5. Click Copy share link and send it to your client.

Tips that make handovers stick

  • One task per guide. "How to add a product" — not "Everything about Shopify."
  • Name guides like a client would search. Use plain words.
  • Send the link once, in writing. Don't bury it in a Zoom recording.
  • Update when things change. Re-record the same task — old guide → new guide.

FAQ

Will my client need to sign up to view the guide?
No. Public guides open with the link. No account, no friction.
Can I send a PDF instead of a link?
Yes. From the editor, export to PDF, HTML, or Markdown.
What if I edit the guide later?
The link stays the same. The client sees the updated version next time they open it.
